Jess Rudkin of BBC Radio Somerset has reported on what happens to ex-racehorses, from racing yard, to slaughterhouse, Racehorse Rehoming Centre to loan home. Aired over 2 days the whole piece lasts for approx 35 mins. Click here for part 1 and here for part 2. Well worth listening to, if you have a broadband internet connection.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Racehorse Rehoming is a self funded Centre and registered charity. We receive no funding from any welfare organisations. No-one takes a wage, we depend on the dedication of our willing friends and volunteers help with any fund raising. The yard belongs to Clive and Tessa Westlake and maintenance is carried out by Clive in his spare time. It is increasingly difficult to care for the horses in our care and organise small fund raising events to enable us to give them everything they need.

We are a small centre, and can only take horses if we have funds available to care for them. Most of the horses are in need of veterinary treatment, some more than others, and we are sure as a horse lover or owner you are well aware of the costs.

All of our inmates stay for as long as it takes to find the right home, this can be as little as a couple of months or as long as 15 months. We aim to know everything about the horse, her likes/dislikes, his grumpy/happy times of the day. When possible, we will take them out to experience different events, Hunting, Local Shows and Pleasure Rides. When we know everything there is to know, the horse is then available for adoption.

Until that time they will need shoeing, feeding, bedding, worming, rugs, back treatment and vet and more. So this is where your support is greatly needed.

Any donation will help towards their future:-

£6.00 will buy a bag of feed
£10.00 will help buy vitamin supplements
£60.00 will buy a set of shoes
£100.00 will replace old turnout and stable rugs.
or make a large dent in our winter haylage bill
A larger donation could mean the next horse will not be turned away.

If you are able to help in any way, become a "Friend of Racehorse Rehoming" and make a difference. For donations of money on a regular basis get in touch and arrange a standing order from your bank. One off payments by cheque are also gratefully received and should be made payable to Racehorse Rehoming and sent to:-

Classet House, Frog Lane, Combe St Nicholas, Chard, Somerset TA20 3NX

Give As You Earn is the UK's most popular form of payroll giving.
If you wish to donate by this method our
Give As You Earn Registration Number is : 000492935

You can give directly from your pre-tax salary, so money that would normally go to the taxman goes to charity instead.
You just decide how much you want to give each month – it could be a couple of pounds, or hundreds or thousands. Then your donation comes out of your pay packet before the taxman touches it.
If you’re a basic rate taxpayer, a gift of £5 only actually costs you £4 – so you can pass the tax relief on to the charity.

For more information on Give As You Earn go to www.cafonline.org

------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you pay income tax then please consider donating monthly by Bank Standing Order and make a Gift Aid declaration. That way your donation will go further because we can claim back the tax that you paid on the amount you donate. The relevant forms are here in Acrobat pdf format. If you need an Acrobat reader then it is available here as a free download.

Empty Printer Cartridge Appeal

Seamus O Shea of D & S Recycling has very kindly taken the time to help us, at no cost to you, with a scheme to encourage the recycling of your empty printer cartridges. But note that Epson/Epson compatible or laser cartridges cannot be recycled in this scheme.

All you have to do is put your empty cartridge into an envelope addressed to,

For every cartridge D & S Recycling receive, we will get a donation for it. Every time you send a cartridge you will automatically be sent a pre-printed charity envelope for future use. You can request as many envelopes as you like, 10, 20, 50 or even 100. Hand them out to your friends; encourage them to recycle for a very good cause.

You can request pre-printed envelopes from ourselves or email: dandsrecycling@fsmail.net or telephone 07876433917. To receive a replacement envelope, put your name and address on a piece of paper with the cartridge

Thank you for helping.
